As when we arrive Singapore and before we check into our boutique hotel, there is a queue for this shop Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice during lunch time. We thought this must be something good since the queue hits right out to a corner. Then we decided to give it a try.
Only then realize it is a famous hainesese curry rice. Little did I know that there is actually a economy rice version of Hainanese. there are quite number of ingredients for you to choose from and I pick as classic as possible.
This place of rice is only SGD 3.10 which I think it is quite cheap if to compare money to money spending without any conversion. Top my rice with Tau Yew Bak – glistening dark soy sauce pork, fried egg and vegetable. Then the owner will ask you do you want curry. Of course I want mine and I requeted added more. This is how I ended up “nasi banjir”.
Then we call this, is actually Nasi Kandar Chinese version. Interesting.
Love the gravy as they do mix around, as it is slightly thick, fragrant and indeed had some similarities with our nasi kandar. Some of the curry is mild spicy but fragrant with spice. The main highlight is the “tau Yew Bak”. cook to perfection where the meat is soft, tender and juicy yet it is caramelise.
It is indeed a great meal and gravy is pretty awesome. Taste is totally different from Malaysia. Best supper place after club.
