There seems to be a talk among my friends that this Palgaeook 팔계옥 in Hartamas, KL, serves pretty good Authentic Korean Chicken BBQ. In our context, it is actually very rare to have a fully chicken Korean BBQ joint. Mostly, it will be either pork or beef. This seems to be the first of its kind.
Pal Gae Ook is a pork free shop that is more like a Chicken Korean BBQ shop specialty.
Ambiance here is like modern with classic touch.
PalGaeOok menu is pretty straight forward, as there are only 4 pages in total for you to hunt for. Basically you can nearly order the whole menu if you do have 6-8 pax at one go.

Best of all, what you need to do is responsible to eat only, as there is a server will be there most of the time or their ratio is like 1 person 4 table, so they can assist all of us to bbq the best style.
BBQ pit here seems one, as to me it seems more like a special customize pit, with 4 output holes to just carefully distribute the charcoal fire to the chicken.
Banchan here is superb, as there are 3 items especially must look for. Yuja White kimchi, it is crispy with hint of sourish. A perfect wrap for veggie and chicken. Pickled Papaya, is crispy wit 15% softness, that goes well with Salt and chicken wrap. Soy bean paste sauce is always one of my favourite. To add on a bit of mild saltiness fragrant. Kimchi Here is a bit more on the spicy side which is needed to pair along with their Chicken.
For Todays, order, we decided to go for 2 types of their chicken.
- Salt and Pepper Chicken : RM 33
- Spicy Sauce Chicken : RM 33
- Rice Balls : RM 20
For the chicken, I like the salt and pepper with its original taste. Its soft and juicy with nice charrted on the skip top side. This have to thank to the griller to make it a perfect bbq chicken. For Spicy Chicken it is well season, with light spiciness. I believe this is to suit for most of the diner instead of putting high spiciness.
Along the way, one of the Korean server came to us and shared that we should consider order fresh scallops (8pcs RM 35 sashmi grade), then he will guide me on his personal style of eating this amazing chicken BBQ. It was a quick seared like 1 mins each side then ready to eat.
First we are guided to the style below:
- take a seaweed
- take a piece of Salt and Pepper Chicken
- add a layer of scallop
- add on veggie
- add on dots of spicy sauce
- then wrap it up to eat.
I would have to say, the flavour combination like this is pretty amazing. First give out a nice crack of fresh seaweed taste, with hint of saltiness then breaks to the softness of Chicken, that is nicely season with pepper, then nice bite of scallop with spicy sauce came last. Its a very interesting combination of texture and taste. Its good and you guys should try it.
Do see this dish in Netflix cooking show, and now I don’t have to fly to Korea to try it out. This is Chicken Wing Shrimp Dumpling @ RM 30 (3pcs) or 6 pcs RM 54
Just look at the amazing texture and I am serious super curious how they debone this, then stuff those shrimp in it and preserve the look of the chicken wing. Do comes with layers of glass noodle, some bouncy prawn texture and the skin slight charred and meat is just wow. One of its kind.
This eating habit will never be complete if Corn Cheese @ RM 18 is not being ordered. It have to be wrap along with seaweed to eat.
for something simple classic is their steamed egg bomb @ RM 18.
Mapdoritang @ RM 89 (enough to feed 4 pax) is an amazing dish. I have had this in Seoul on my last trip and Oh, My God. this is 90% authentic style as the one I ate. I love the spiciness of this, in medium body texture slightly thick not too watery, where chicken is cook nicely, its soft and juicy where soak on its soup base. With the leave taste a bit of bitterness fragrant that I love is just a perfect dish. I wold recommend this dish.
Then they will get your ending with kimchi fried rice. This is pure satisfaction.
