I am a big fan for MasterChef Australia series and when MasterChef Asia was announce, I was quite excited. The first season took off last year and Marcus Low emerge as runner up for that season. With that, he now runs Mad Hatter Desserts at Uptown Damansara.
In his outlet, he is offering his signature cakes which is very pretty looking and also freshly made breads.
quite interesting with this combination, Pop Corn . .
Besides that, I am aiming to go back to try out his ala carte special desserts.
As a first timer in the outlet, you would usually ask what is the recommendations and was introduce to Raspberry Rose & Lychee @ RM 17 & Chocolate Calamansi @ RM 17 was a pleasure to devour and really – just too beautiful to eat.
Chocolate Calamansi is indeed very pretty especially with the paper thin mirror chocolate glaze ontop of it. It is a flavour that you would recognise especially for the chocolate. Indeed a unique combination, however could not taste the calamansi as the chocolate flavour overpower the taste of it.
Raspberry Rose & Lychee is filled with raspberry mousse, rose and lychee ganache, raspberry jelly and sponge cake. A flavour that everyone would like especially for girls, sponge cake is slightly dry for me and mousse could be better.
Houjicha Latte @ RM 15. it is not bad. I just prefer the profile that have slightly stronger in taste.
After I am done with the first 2, then I cant help to order this green dessert along with their bread.
Pistachio, Grapefruit and green tea. My own personal preference, would say that this stood out the most compare to the 2 recommended flavour from Marcus. flavour profile is more well balance where you can taste passionfruit, mild of green tea and pistachio.
as for Bread I am always a fan of brioche, would recommend to order their Garlic Brioche that serve with their special home made orange gem cook in 3 ways along with their 36 hours cook butter. Great pairing with butter, garlic and orange 3 ways. – recommended!
Overall, the price for cakes is slightly steep for RM 17 per piece. is for you to try it out yourself. Personally, desserts in Malaysia have yet got me excited as ingredients are not cheap. Got asked on if to compare to others such as Xiao, Tiny Tempress or others, I have no idea as have yet try on those where feedback for both of them neither impressive.
Maybe will hit on those 2 along and dfo a comparison.
