Kaiju Company is definitely one of the new kids on the block at AWP, Bangsar that gaining its popularity among many foodies out there. A small cozy place that will definitely win your heart away with its simple setting. Certainly gives a good replica like all those hidden restaurant in Melbourne. This place offer Japanese & Thai fusion gastronomic experience.
remark : visited them 23/01/2022 : food quality is not the same as when they open. Still okay
Always love to be seated at the bar area where you can see all the actions of chefs and preparations.
Love the menu too, as Kaiju is indeed a Godzilla. offerings are pretty decent and straight forward.
Kaiju menu
For cocktail we tried – Sake + Lemongrass @ RM 22. Not too strong, yet just nice to pair with your food. Refreshing drink.
A few dishes was highly recommended by my friend. Started off with – Bara Bara Chirashi + 1 Spicy miso soup @ RM 30 – Original Kaiju style mixed sashimi rice bowl. A simple bowl of charishi that is filled with fresh sashimi. Nice aroma as with a little twist in it as you do taste a bit of sourish end.
Miso soup is interesting, as it is like a near clear soup miso soup yet gives you a hint of spiciness.
As long as I sit at the bar and by looking at their preparation, Yoyoki Tuna Tataki @ RM 26 – Mango Salad, Namtuk Sauce & Garlic Sauce is indeed one of a very consistent dish. with 1 cm cook at the side that still remains most of it raw is what I am expecting. Great snack dish as the mango and garlic sauce do pair well.
This dish was highly recommended by my friend so Tomyum Udon is the dish that would want to go after @ RM 28 – udon, fish noodle, prawns, squid, mushroom and egg. This is indeed not your ordinary udon as the flavour is with a twist. Mild creamy soup base that gives you a nice aroma of coconut yet you can taste a bit of tomyum flavour which did not overpowering the rest of the taste. Prawn is fresh and love the fish noodle which is chewy and springy.
Others I have tried along the way – August 2017 :
Kaiju Fried Chicken is simple and good! top with their in house flavouring is just nice to keep you moving. Lime enhance the taste along lifting up the chili leaves.
Daikan Gyu Tan Salad @ RM 24
I think this was special of the day.
555 Salmon Tata @ RM 28
BKK Asomboi is very refreshing in our hot weather. @ RM 10
This place is indeed a great place to hunt for a nice fusion food. Food and presentation is what I am not expecting as flavours are. Price is decent.
The only set back is that, there are no reservation. You have to walk in or wait for table. Average waiting time is 30 minutes to 1 hour. Do prepare to get a spot as the sitting capacity in here is limited.
